BTS MAKE HISTORY AT WEMBLEY
Global superstars BTS became the first ever South Korean group to headline Wembley Stadium connected by EE last weekend.
The seven-piece boy band chose the venue as one of only two European locations on its 2019 “Speak Yourself: Love Yourself” stadium tour – with the group’s two Wembley dates selling out within 90 minutes of going on sale.
Each London audience was joined by digital viewers from the group’s global fan-base, nicknamed the BTSARMY, with the concert made accessible to 14 million BTS subscribers on the VLive streaming platform.
At a press conference held before the epic gig, BTS described their honour at performing at the “historic and symbolic” stadium.
“[A]s a performer, it is a venue you dream of playing. When we were young, we grew up watching the Live Aid performance. Just thinking about coming here, we barely got any sleep last night. That’s how nervous we are, that’s how fantastic we think the performance is going to be.”
And indeed, the band’s two nights at Wembley Stadium was a fantastic and moving experience for all involved.
Wembley worked closely with Live Nation and Big Hit Entertainment to distribute and facilitate the BTS Light Stick which were paired to each fans seat transforming the stadium into a lightshow synced to the music. The performance was also accompanied by bouncy castles, water cannons, pyrotechnics, lasers and confetti canons.
Liam Boylan, Wembley General Manager, said:
“Wembley Stadium attracts the world’s biggest global performers. With the unstoppable global rise of K-Pop, it was only a matter of time before we welcomed our first South Korean stars.”
“The band delivered one of the most impressive shows that Wembley has ever seen - with one of the best and loudest crowds.”
