Wembley Stadium today confirmed that it would undergo works on its roof following a review with leading contractor and partner Brookfield Multiplex (BM).

Despite the roof being maintained by BM since opening in 2007, it was felt that to achieve a long-term solution now was the right time to rectify issues that had come to light in recent years.

Although no structural or design works will take place, the roof sheeting will be replaced in a targeted way during the off-season, therefore impacting in no way the hosting of world class events that Wembley Stadium enjoys.

With advances in new technology, The FA and Brookfield Multiplex have taken decisive action to embrace a new system as a positive long-term solution to ensure the roof remains in excellent condition and Wembley remains a premium, best in class stadium for many years to come.

The majority of the cost will be covered by third parties, with Wembley Stadium covering some costs for betterment of product and for future proofing purposes.

The FA and Brookfield Multiplex have instructed specialist roof and cladding contractors Kalzip and Lakesmere to undertake this work.

As leaders in their field, they have unparalleled track records of working on some of the world’s most recognised structures, including the Olympics Aquatics Centre and Heathrow Terminal 2 (Lakesmere) and the SSE Hydro Arena Glasgow (Kalzip).

It is expected that the programme will start this winter and be active during the fallow periods in the stadium calendar, affecting events in no way.
