Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin was full of praise for Wembley Stadium and the English fans after his team ran out comfortable winners in the first game of the NFL International Series against Oakland Raiders.

The trip was the Massachusetts-born coach’s first visit to the capital and he admitted that it was a memory he will cherish for some time to come.

“I’ve never been to London before but it is a world class city and this is a world class stadium,” he said.

“Every single individual that we met from the minute we landed have been nothing but helpful. The players loved the atmosphere here. It has been a tremendous experience.”

But it wasn’t all plain sailing for Philbin’s men. They suffered an early scare where Brian Leonhardt put the Raiders ahead in the opening stages on Sunday.

However, from the moment Mike Wallace put the Dolphins ahead early in the second quarter the visitors never looked back, and they had built a virtually insurmountable 24-7 lead by half-time.

And Philbin believes it was a strong team ethic which helped guide his side to victory.

“After the first score that we gave up I thought our team settled in and played well,” he added.

“I told the team afterward that that’s what we can achieve when guys don’t care about stats and guys don’t care about who is getting the credit.

“You play as a team, pitch in and make a difference and do some great things.”

He continued: “I felt like we had a good tempo going, we were moving well and making plays. That’s what the games about, having some fun and making some plays.

“It’s not complicated so let’s not over complicate it. We want to go out as a team, play hard and make plays and it was nice to see us do that.”
