Footballing legend Alan Shearer was crowned winner of the Battle of the Backsides for Sport Relief, as he beat fellow competitor Robbie Savage in their race to be the first to sit on half the seats in Wembley - a brutal 45,000 seats each.

After days at the top of the leader board, Shearer took his final seat of the brutal challenge at the Royal Box at 5:22pm, just a nail-biting 13 minutes ahead of his competitor with Savage completing their epic task at 5:35pm. 

Speaking after being crowned winner, Alan said: “I can’t swear, but I’m absolutely knackered. I’m going to change my number if the CEO of Sport Relief tries to contact me again! 
 
“It was desperate at times. When I woke up on Tuesday morning I thought to myself - Al, you’re not going to do this. I felt dreadful, my muscles, my legs, my knees - I’ve had nine operations on my knees and they are absolutely hanging off. It was hard and we felt like packing it in many times, but you can’t pack it in –you’ve gotta keep on raising that money, and it’s well worth it when you finish.” 
 
After completing his leg of the challenge, Robbie said: “I’m absolutely exhausted, but congratulations to Alan – the better man won. We’ve both been through pain - 45,000 seats - but he’s kept me going. I couldn’t have thought of anyone better to do this challenge with. If you’d have said to us on Tuesday morning when we were walking on the stairs and our legs were giving way that we’d finish we’d never have believed you, but hopefully we can raise some more money and it’ll all be worth it.”

On the final day of the challenge, and with both men suffering after days of squatting and sliding in the 
sweltering sunshine, recent Sport Relief challenge champion Davina McCall brought her much needed energy to the ex-professional footballers as they push through the pain to cover the final few rows standing between them and – for Alan - victory. As Alan hit the 1000 seat mark, Robbie was trailing just a tantalisingly close 136 seats behind, but it was too little too late for the former Welsh international, as he failed to pick up the pace enough to come back from behind for the win.
