David Beckham has spoken of the ‘huge honour’ of the UEFA Champions League Final returning to Wembley Stadium in May.

The former England captain is dreaming of making it all the way to the 25 May showpiece with Paris Saint-Germain, following his move to the Ligue 1 leaders in January. PSG are due to meet Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, with the first leg at the Parc des Princes on 2 April. The return match in Spain will take place on 10 April.

Beckham, who completed his first 90 minutes on his fourth appearance for PSG in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Saint-Etienne, is the last Englishman left in this year’s competition. During a visit to China, he spoke on Thursday about the significance of Wembley welcoming the UEFA Champions League once again after Barca won the trophy at the national stadium in 2011.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “For the final to be at Wembley is a huge honour for us as English people - to have one of the biggest club competitions in the world in our home. It is going to be a great final whoever is in it. We are still very lucky to be in the Champions League and playing against Barcelona. It is such a big game but one that is a great game to be involved in.”
