Google Street View Maps Wembley Stadium
Wembley Stadium played host to Google’s unique Street View trike on Saturday 2nd June at the England V Belgium game. Capturing 360 degree images of the stadium, the official trike ensured the iconic venue will take its place alongside the country’s most famous landmarks on Google’s Street View mapping service.
Soaking up the atmosphere on Wembley Way, Google’s official trike collected imagery in and around the buzzing stadium and shared the match day atmosphere. Before the game, the trike also enjoyed special access pitchside and completed a full circuit of the pitch prior to England’s final warm up match against Belgium.
The three-wheeler gathered imagery that will give fans from around the world an opportunity to zoom in and virtually explore the stadium. Thousands of the images taken are now being stitched together for everyone to see in all their 360 degree glory on Google Maps and the stadium will take its place alongside famous castles, coastal paths, natural wonders, historic buildings and prestigious sporting stadia.
Wembley Managing Director, Roger Maslin said: “Wembley is renowned for playing host to some of the greatest sports and music events the world has to offer. Teaming up with Google Maps will allow us to open up Wembley’s doors and invite fans from around the world to take a virtual tour and explore the inspiring stadium.”
Ed Parsons, geospatial technologist at Google UK said:
"We've seen a tremendous amount of enthusiasm from British people to get the places they love onto Street View, particularly places where they spend their leisure time. Showcasing the home of English football on Google Maps during a match will really capture the passion of the game so that people from far and wide can soon admire such an important part of the country's sporting heritage."
