To celebrate the return of the Jules Rimet trophy to its spiritual home and scene of England's famous 1966 World Cup win, all guests on the Stadium Tour during half term week will have the once in a lifetime opprtunity to get up close to this historic trophy and have their photo taken alongside it.
The Jules Rimet trophy is the latest in a long line of historic artefacts to be unveiled at Wembley Stadium. After the October half term week it will go on permanent display alongside other precious artefacts including the 1966 World Cup Commerative Plaque and the original 1966 World Cup crossbar for future Stadium Tour guests to enjoy.
Adam Burrage, Wembley Stadium Tour Manager, said: “We are absolutely delighted that after 43 years, the Jules Rimet Trophy is now back at Wembley Stadium. It is such an important part of this country's footballing heritage and a fantastic addition to the growing number of sporting artefacts now on display to the public on the Wembley Stadium Tour.”
From the inaugural competition in 1930, the Jules Rimet trophy was presented to the nine different winners of the FIFA World Cup before it’s retirement in 1970, after Brazil won the tournament for a third time. Each winner would also receive an official copy of the trophy to keep permanently.
England’s 1966 trophy has since been housed at the FA headquarters of Lancaster Gate and Soho Square. Now 43 years after England beat West Germany 4-2 at Wembley on Saturday 30 July 1966, the Jules Rimet Trophy finally returns to public display at Wembley Stadium.
